A word becomes a sentence which later becomes a story until the truth emerges and freedom spreads - this is the purpose of words.
I first learned through folk music and later, hip hop; bipolar cousins who consistently presented stories soaked in messages of social justice, love and courage. Then these messages were covered with acoustic guitar and bass; ultimately, I was baptized and hopelessly in love with the creative arts; but more specifically the words used to shape, define and represent them.
The years of my life would come to include a stint in the US Army, 2 husbands, a small gang of children, a corporate career and a nonstop urging to resist the norms of the system. I am a writer and my humanity is best expressed through the connectivity that language offers and the arts create.
